A ustedes nuestra admiración y agradecimiento, siempre.

DANCE CORPS / Guest Artistic collaborator: Edgar Pol

Cuerpo de Baile (Dance Corps) was a guest project of Espacios Revelados/Changing Places Guadalajara, an initiative that brought together local, national and international artists, as well as academics, civil organizations and residents of different neighborhoods, to reveal and rethink community ways of returning to include forgotten spaces of this city in our daily lives, through art and critical thinking. Thus, 19 artists were invited to work in different spaces in that city that have been abandoned or have lost their use, to re-imagine the way in which a city can be lived. This was an international initiative proposed by the Siemens Stiftung Foundation in collaboration with the Goethe-Mexiko Institute and the Ministry of Culture of Jalisco.

This project started from the reflection that to re-inhabit physical and symbolic spaces, it was necessary to find a place in common: THE DANCE. From the rhythm of the body when walking, the dance that we reluctantly did at school because it was Mother’s Day; When together with friends we imitated the dance of our favorite artist, or when we danced any line dancing song at the wedding, the dance goes through us all. Having as its headquarters the emblematic Salón del Músico, in Dance Corps we set out to trace the dancing memory of the inhabitants of Guadalajara, and reveal from the stories woven from the idea of ”dance”, memories about geographies, historical, political familiar and intimate contexts,, where  dance was reaffirmed as bonding, liberation, resistance and living archive.

During the process we proposed three approaches:

The Dance of your Life

Sound installation where dance stories generously donated by inhabitants of Guadalajara are revealed, which were collected from a public call for donations of personal, family or public stories; interviews to passers-by and workshops / gathering in schools and cultural centers.

Life Pulse

Ilse and Posh (contemporary) Ariadna (Folklor) Roberto and Isabel (Danzón) and Motus Crew (Hip-hop) are inhabitants of this city that on the way to building this project, we are. From interviews, we re-built their dance memory together, so that in the end, on a Saturday afternoon, these dancers generously share what dancing means to them and how they live this activity in Guadalajara. Whether in the public square, in teaching or in the hall, their way of experiencing dance day by day in this city is inspiration and celebration.

Dance Corps

At the end of Pulse of Life, we continued with a festive dance for the inhabitants of Guadalajara who donated their stories to us, as well as with family and friends of the protagonists of Pulso de Vida, forming a collective Dance Corps.

Dance Corps would not exist without the contribution of Guadalajara inhabitants who shared their dance stories. To you, our admiration and thank you, always.
