Colaboración entre Mariana Arteaga (México) y Marta P. Campos (España)

Dunkelkammer Sessions es una iniciativa de los artistas-curadores Fernando Vigueras y Gabriela Gordillo, quienes idearon una plataforma de improvisación virtual que explora las relaciones intersubjetivas de un diálogo a distancia articulado desde la danza, performance y arte sonoro. El formato reúne a 2 artistas de contextos y locaciones distantes, a realizar una pieza performática, bajo la premisa de utilizar audio como único medio de comunicación en tiempo real. Desde el set propuesto, el sonido y la invisibilidad revelan al otro desde el eco, la voz, el silencio la comunicación no verbal, definiendo nuevos campos de significado en donde caben la abstracción, telepatía e intimidad. 

Ri’nawi Abalar

Ri’nawi (palabra de origen rarámuri) Voltear la tierra.  Abalar (palabra muerta perteneciente al español): Arrojar, echar fuera.

Quizá desde un anhelo provocado por el confinamiento estos meses, en el proceso de conceptualización de Ri’nawi Abalar fuimos evocando sonoramente ecosistemas: Intentar traer dentro lo de fuera y verter fuera paisajes interiores. Probablemente de manera inconsciente queríamos dialogar sobre todo lo que es ser/estar vivo, desde nuestros pequeños departamentos.

En esos días una de nosotras leyó un fragmento del poema On the surface of things de Wallace Stevens que dice así:

‘En mi cuarto, el mundo está más allá de
mi entendimiento
pero cuando camino, veo que consiste en
cuatro colinas y una nube.’

Dunkelkammer Sessions is an initiative by the artist-curators Fernando Vigueras and Gabriela Gordillo,, who created a virtual improvisation platform that explores intersubjective relationships of a long-distance dialogue articulated through dance, performance, and sound art. The format brings together two artists from distant contexts and locations to create a performative piece under the premise of using audio as the only medium for real-time communication. From the proposed set, sound and invisibility reveal the other through echo, voice, silence, and non-verbal communication, defining new fields of meaning where abstraction, telepathy, and intimacy can exist.

Ri’nawi Abalar 

Ri’nawi (a word of Rarámuri origin) means “to turn the earth.”
Abalar (a dead word belonging to Spanish): to throw, to cast out.

Perhaps driven by a longing provoked by confinement during these months, in the conceptualization process of Ri’nawi Abalar, we began sonically evoking ecosystems: trying to bring the outside in and pour our inner landscapes out. Probably, in an unconscious way, we wanted to dialogue about everything that is being/alive, from our small apartments.

During those days, one of us read a fragment from the poem On the Surface of Things by Wallace Stevens, which goes as follows:

“In my room, the world is beyond
my understanding
but when I walk, I see that it consists of
four hills and a cloud.”
