Imagined Theatres Issue 05: Curating Performance comenzó en septiembre de 2019, un período ahora conocido como “antes de los tiempos”. En ese entonces, Anna Gallagher-Ross y Ron Berry, co directores del Fusebox Festival , buscaban escuchar de curadores, directores artísticos, productores y administradores de arte sobre lo que imaginaban para el futuro del campo de las Artes Vivas. Anna y Ron contactaron a colegas y colegas de colegas de diversas geografías y experiencias, para pedirles entablar un diálogo sobre sus esperanzas y sueños para el futuro de este campo, sabiendo de antemano que sería imposible capturarlo todo; pero entonces sería el inicio de una conversación sobre lo que puede ser la curaduría en artes escénicas y las mismas artes escénicas en el futuro. Poco sabían que este número, en forma y contenido, abarcaría una pandemia histórica que aún estamos viviendo. Adoptando una estructura de diálogo, dieciocho colegas escribirían una ronda de imaginaciones a la que se le llamaría “Theatre”, para luego invitar a otros 18 colegas a escribir una respuesta llamada “Gloss”. Are you all right? (¿Estás bien?) Fue el Gloss que Silverio y yo escribimos, intentando hacer un llamado a poner nuestra atención sobre el cuidado: Primero la vida, lo más apremiante, y luego recapitular una extensión urgente de cuidado a las relaciones con artistas y sus procesos, a desprecarizar la práctica artística en cada una de sus etapas.

ARE YOU ALL RIGHT ?

Imagined Theaters Issue 05: Curating Performance began in September 2019, a period now known as “before the times”. At the time, Anna Gallagher-Ross and Ron Berry, co-directors of the Fusebox Festival, were looking to hear from curators, art directors, producers, and art administrators, about what they envisioned for the future of the Live Arts field. Anna and Ron reached out to colleagues and colleagues of colleagues from diverse geographies and experiences, asking them to engage in a dialogue about their hopes and dreams for the future of this field, knowing in advance that it would be impossible to capture it all; but then it would be the start of a conversation about what curatorship in performing arts and performing arts itself could be in the future. Little did they know that this issue, in form and content, would encompass a historic pandemic that we are still living through. Adopting a dialogue structure, eighteen colleagues would write a round of imaginings called “Theatre”, then invite 18 other colleagues to write a response called “Gloss”.
Are you all right? was the Gloss that Silverio and I wrote, trying to make a call to put our attention on care: First life, the most pressing, and then recapitulate an urgent extension of care to relationships with artists and their processes, to reduce the precariousness of artistic practice in each of its stages.
